merche blasco is a spanish multidisciplinary artist and composer living in new york. educated as an engineer, she began her musical career in europe, recording two albums as her alter ego “burbuja” produced by cristian vogel. burbuja was first presented to audiences at sónar, the electronic and advanced music festival in barcelona. while subsequently touring burbuja in europe, the usa, and canada, she collaborated with artists such as chicks on speed and lucy orta. in 2010 she arrived in the us via a fulbright grant to pursue a masters at the interactive telecommunications program (itp) at nyu. since then, her practice has centered on building new instruments for electronic music performance, orchestrating participatory sound performances in public spaces, electroacoustic improvisation and multichannel compositions. blasco has been awarded art residencies and scholarships from nyfa, the queens museum (nyc), harvestworks (nyc) and the contemporary museum of santiago de chile, among others. her performances and compositions have been presented at nycemf, the high line in nyc, nime conferences, eyebeam, tsonami festival in chile, la mama, sonic circuits in washington dc, mapping festival (geneva) among others. her work has been featured in the new york times, the wall street journal, and wire magazine. blasco is currently a ph.d. candidate in music composition at new york university (gsas). |
